Headlight failure consequence

Its 22.45 UK time if your still in your crib lucky U .i have a question please .I am not electrically savvy on my 02 12r my headlights are out .Rear lights & front parking light +brake lights working.Its staying lighter longer now its summer so headlights not such an issue right now Question would it be ok to run my 12r with with no headlights working but all other lights ok or would this over heat or burn out my R/R or cause any other wiring overloads .Even God himself took a day off trying to suss out the 12r electrics .

Shouldn't make any difference to the R/R it's there to do just that... regulate and recitfy, your more likey to damage it by over loading it :) Yorkie is the best guy for electrical help, for some reason he has the 12's loom tattoo'd on his chest ?

Thanks for the info Mauser heat sink seemed to be getting a bit hot got me worried .Electrics are a black art to me so booked in to a pro to check out tomorrow he is pissed of somewhat when i informed him its a 12r he will be working on .12rs are a rare breed & a total wolf in wolfs clothing & a future classic if u got one look after it they will never make anything like a 12r again .Ride safe

Quick update on this problem.All relays & fuses checked out ok .Finally found the gremlin its mentioned in a thread somewhere & its a bastard its an easy fix but still a bastard .If your headlights fail but headlight flash light switch illuminates & clicks u have power up to there .The problem is a fuse way at the back of the battery which means disconnecting the battery & sliding the bastard out.There u will find another junction box & at the back of that a fuse its a high load fuse but had blown .Time taken bodywork removal + replacing +head scratching two & half hours time to replace fuse 2 fcuking seconds .Nuffsed love the 12r but someone a Kawasaki needs a kick in the nads TWICE for this bollox up.

I wonder if using a smaller lithium ion battery and modifying the cradle you'd be able to remove it without having to remove the dummy tank.

If you leave the top bolt out on the battery cover you can get the battery out without removing anything :)

I tried that but was unable to get it out as the dummy tank didn't give me enough room...

Nice idea RMK but cost time & effort would negate the outcome as the 12r battery cradle is tailor made for this battery +the junction box that clips to the back of it.I do the same as Mauser & leave the top bolt off the battery cover but its as Duck00 states its still a tight bastard fit & u may still have to remove the tank cover.In any event it may take an hour or so (BUT MAKE THE TIME)to slide out your battery & connect a charger cable they cost a couple of Quid & will save u without a shadow of doubt grief u wouldnt fcuking believe .Bigsunsummertime Ride safe

Hi guys not trying to hijack thread but everyone with 12r sooner or later finds out the hassle of a battery removal, or replacement, I remember sitting on the side of the road with 1/2 my bike pulled apart just to check a battery problem I had, so after that I added a power outlet in the rear under seat direct to battery, it doubles as a phone charger and its where I plug a trickle charger in, also I added a volt meter under dash, its wired to the battery through a relay and I use the running light circuit to trip the relay so the volt meter isn't on all the time and flattening my battery, and it helps to see what my charging system and battery condition is
first pic the meter under dash showing 14.3 volts the second pic is rear under seat compartment with walking stick and power outlet have a great day guys Craig

if anything goes wrong check the battery

Google this info first PDQ .Tecmate Testmate . ON a 12r the battery is more or less locked away & we all know its a bastard but credit to the Big K its a first of its kind monocock frame road bike. This gizmo will give u a lot of info with bat state from cranking to charging vaults in situ as long you have charger extension cables fitted .26 cost in the uk well worth it even if u only use it twice as it can allso be used on any 12v systems from bikes to powerboats .Check out Revzilla they sell em + follow up any links .Gotta take the moggy for a stroll as its 70 degs outyonda & its his time + the twats getting pissed of .Win some lose some its all the same to me LEMMY MOTORHEAD RIP. RIDE SAFE
