Running issues

Hey

I've packed 8000 km on the bike since i bought it last august and its been reasonably good to me so far.

However recently it seems to have developed a running issue

Its a 2000 ZX12R.

And I have not looked at anything yet, because i dont know where to start.

Two things :

From cold it always starts well with the choke on.

Its happened a couple of times but basically i put it in 1st and take off but it cuts out immediately, as if I've forgotten to lift up the side stand

It doesnt do it all the time however. Maybe the clutch or stand switch are defective or the plugs on the loom have an issue. I could short them out for testing.

That said, once I'm on the road, upon applying throttle it tends to go all choppy and stutter.

In town upon reaching red lights and stopping, it dies and stalls.

Not too sure where to look ?

Plugs, battery, clutch and stand plug, etc...

I'd be looking at the clutch lever switch and the side stand switch first as these are the easy options.

For Tech Questions Bike Model letters and Country are more useful than saying the year, for UK owners anyway, as registration year is not always the year of manufacturer model.

Hey.

I fiddled with the clutch switch to no avail but it wouldn't start with me on it but started with me beside the bike.

I whipped off the seat and found that the earth wire of the PCIII had come loose and was not making permanent contact and especially not with my butt on it

All back to normal now thanks for the advice.

Strange but I've heard that one once before.

Good to hear you managed to get it sorted.
