Aftermarket Fairing kits...

Well finally it has happened I have had a small step off the ZX-12R thankfully onto grass and only at around 25kph give or take a few... me just cuts and bruises and I am going to hurt like hell tomorrow but thats why we have ibruprofen and the like...

Question I was planning on replacing the upper fairing any way and now it definitely needs either a replacement or a good plastic welder as it is all there the right hand panel has also taken a hit and it has messed up the plastic on the inside of the fairing at the top though that may just be that it is out of alignment and may need just need sorting out... Seems as though it looks like this was just a cosmetic job as mechanically she is in good shape as in no odd sounds she is not leaking anything and I had to ride her 50km back home...

My main question is I have been looking at the ABS replacement fairings and yes they are out of China but are they worth it my bike is a 2003/4 and the bodywork could do with a very good going over or a complete replacement as probably to replace the top fairing and the right side panel it will probably cost an arm and a leg... The link below is the one I am looking at as mine is currently black but without the ZX-12R logo on it... She has been dropped before by a previous owner and they repaired her...

Any comments would be helpful or if anyone knows of anywhere else I could get a better one...

I bought my fairing kit from a Chinese seller on Ebay. The fitment was fine. Around the headlight it fitted nicely. The only places it's a bit wonky is the bottom lower fairing (infront of the oil filter) and the inner panels are 1 piece instead of 2.... So in case you need to change your lightbulb you first have to remove the buddy seat -> seat -> tank cover to get them out. Most sellers only sell kits which have those panels one piece.

I have two alternatives sellers, though neither of those sell the kits with a 2 piece inner panel.

I have to agree with everything said - they're not prefect and I went matte finish and I wasn't 100% happy with the coverage on the corners of some panels.

But all told they were still cheaper than a paint job, better than I thought they would be and really good value for money in my opinion

That's true, the original fairings are made from coloured plastics and aren't painted, my original green weren't, can't speak for other colours. But aftermarket are usually made from white plastic and then painted so every scratch or chip will reveal the white underground.
My gloss black paint job isn't perfect when you're close up (cellulite-ish shine) but stand back a step and you don't really notice.
If you do go with black, any scratch is easily covered up with a standard gloss/matt touch up pencil from any car shop.

There are unpainted kits available too if you really want it to have a specific colour...

Many thanks for the information guys... looks like I have a decent option to look at now as next 2 weeks won't be riding but taking a look underneath and seeing what the damage is... if any. Also seeing about just fixing the panels up now until winter gets here and then buying the kit and then over winter replacing everything...
