Ignition problems still

Back again. Installed a new ignition switch, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Starts up fine then nothing, no power to anything. When it starts clock keeps time, when it doesn't start clock goes back to 1:00 when it finally comes back online. Is there a relay that powers the clock or dash separate from the ignition circuit? When it works it works fine, when it doesn't nothing not changing or doing anything, makes no sense. HELP please.

There are a few reasons why the clock would lose power and reset to 1:00.
1. The plug on the back of the clocks is not fitted fully.
2. The starter relay has a bad connection on its plug.
3. The main fuse in the top of the starter relay is loose.
4. Your battery is bad and when you try to start the bike it sucks all the voltage off the battery resetting the clock.
5. You have a loose battery terminal.
6. You have a bad wire from the battery to the starter relay or from the starter relay.

For Tech Questions Bike Model letters and Country are more useful than saying the year, for UK owners anyway, as registration year is not always the year of manufacturer model.

I would guess options 4 through 6 in the list above.

Hi, thank you for the reply. I let the bike sit inside for a week starting it 3 or 4 times a day and it worked fine. Took it out on a mission and it had no power to the dash, let it sit after trying it 5 or 6 times and then it worked fine. If the battery were bad I don't think it would have started. For some reason there is no power getting through the ignition all the time. The battery is kept on a tender and is only 1 year old. If a fuse were bad I would think it would be bad all the time unless as you say maybe the connection is bad and fixes itself after sitting. I will check the wires you suggested. It's becoming a PITA, but will charge on. Thanks again for your suggestions.

It could be the fuse holder contacts that are not gripping the fuse, either way, I would have the battery tray out and checking everything on the starter relay.

mine was doing the same thing hot or cold start sometimes then would not , it was making no sense i had replaced the stator, regulator, new battery checked wiring fuses i even made up new battery leads. It got to the point that i would only run with a full tank there and back with filling up at home. Then it went fine for a while then started doing the same thing again. i got the shits with it i decided to see how much volts while riding 12.6 to 12.8 with a new battery stator and reg hard wired in . so i thought that this time i would put in a cheep regulator hard wired in straight up to 13.8 at idle , it now just sits on the 13.8 and no more problems . try and other regulator that you know is good and mount a volt gauge on it . the volt gauge is the only way i found out what the problem was and where to start to look.
