Sponge bob

Hi all, can anyone explain to me why Kawasaki put a sponge type filter on the the inside of the front sprocket cover as seen in image? I can only assume it's to reduce noise. It's for a ZXR750H1

Oh and you can get some good savings on sausages from Brito's

mmmm, is what i thought also. I mean the Air Switch Valve is the same thing where it's not needed but it's in there.

Anyone else with an answer?
