I have drawn more crowd's and recieved more compliment's on my 14 in a month's time, then I recieved in 3 year's with my 12. When I first got my 12 and rode it to work it was mostly ignored. Not the case with my 14. I have had people follow me into gas station's just to ask about the bike, never had that with the 12. Must be alot of mindless people out there. :?

Yep, and Kawasaki only improved upon this design/scheme for '05 when the majestic, FASTEST Metallic Spark Black was unleashed upon an unsuspecting public.

...the difference is marketing. And yes, the zx12 is a timeless classic that makes you look back and smile when you get off of it.

 

I receive compliments on my bike, a lot. I love walking away and taking one last look, still gets me every time. Kinda like my woman. :wink: The day that I no longer get that feeling, its time to trade it in (the bike, that is). To this day, the best compliment I have ever gotten was that it looks intimidating just sitting still. This was from a Gixxer 1k rider no less.

I wholeheartedly agree :!: When I look at my black beauty, no matter where she's parked, I just think of how beautiful she is and how KHI really outdid themselves designing and building the 12R. I had the opportunity to trade to a 14 but it just doesn't stir my soul the way my 12 does. I get plenty of compliments from others about her. Just three days ago one of my co-workers, who rides a cruiser, said that he was checking out the black beauty and realized just how sharp she looks.
Sure 14 owners might get a lot of questions now because of the effort that KHI has put into publicizing the 14. They never put that effort into the 12 and I'm glad for that because when I got to rallies and bike hangouts, I am usually the only 12 there of one of very few 12's, not like Busa's - they are a dime a dozen.

 

I heard some talk on a another forum that the 12s looks are dated. Yes dated like a H1 or H2 or Z1 or ZX11 or older Vette or Hemi Cuda or??? Thats the kinda dated company I can live with! I can sit down after work with a nice cooler of beer and get live entertainment by just looking at my 01 12 silver my 73 Z1 and dont shoot me my 79 CBX. If I had a 14 I couldnt do that. Id just want to pull the door shut and go home. :lol: I will wait. I only will buy a new bike if its 30hp more than the last one I have. Soups not done yet. I dont buy a bike just because its new. I thought about for a minute but then thought better of it. It must be special to. I dont care what the masses think. Its what I think that matters to me.

DAMN!!! Very well said Spoiler. You hit the nail on the head, the 12 is a classic that will age gracefully while never losing any of its nastiness and intimidation factor.

 

damm it --------we waited 6 years for the replacement.i see i am not alone on being very let down.kawasaki this is gonna cost you a millon bucks at the least

I am also shocked. I have to agree with Jeff, I draw more crowds and get more attention with the 14 than I ever do with my 12R, or my 10R.

Honestly, my comments are not based on the fact that I have a 14, personally, I think the 12R does look better than the 14. I think what the 14 has going for it is that it looks so different. Love or hate the headlights, front end, and Foreman grill, they are different and people are drawn to different. I have not received one negative comment on the Foreman grills yet, and they are what I dislike the most personally. One of the guys I ride with has a black 05 R1, which I think is possibly the best looking sport bikes out there, he has commented on how much he likes the looks of the ZX14 :?:

i have been trying to force myself to buy that thing but my heart say`s no.
i have spent hours at kawasaki shops waiting for the feeling while looking at the zx14 and it never comes.

I saw a blue & a red in a dealer yesterday and I know what you mean. I stared at them for about 5 minutes and decided they looked a bit better than when I walked in and I think the blue looked better but my '05 black 12 with the 4 into 1 is a better looking bike hands down.

Have you sat on a 14 ?, the cockpit view is nice.

Yes, there sure are. The Busa out sold the ZX12R 10:1 because magazines said it was #1, you want to tell me how good looking the Busa is? So the 14 is faster? No way is it as good looking. The 14s engine casing looks very 1 in a million while everything about the 12 looks raw. The cannisters on the 14 look cheap and tin like. I hope Kawasaki makes some changes but I doubt it unless they are pushed to by Suzuki. The 14 is not bad looking but the 12 is better looking imo.

I don't take it to heart when people knock something for looks, looks are subjective. Also, I readily admit that I like the looks of the 12R better than the 14. I don't always pick a bike based on looks alone. In fact I can't remember if I ever have. I am really surprised by how many people "on the street" like the looks of the 14 better, I didn't expect it.

 

The red 2002 model is the best looking IMO. I and the black 05 is the second best looking.

 

It's tough to beat the green one. :lol:

 

You gotta be kidding. You must have never saw the magnificent 01 SILVER bullet! :lol: The bestest fastest purdyest plus silver owners get better looking women and less used up women. They actually save themselves for silver.

I have to agree with this thread. I also feel let down by Kawasaki.

Perhaps they peaked with the 12 ? Who knows.

I just hope that in a couple more years they put the refined 14 engine in a 12 package, then I am on board big time with ZX-14R.org

Until then I am happy with my 12.

You guys should really ride what you're dissin'. And take a look at your Silver Book's - the 14 is what they wanted to make the 12 all along.

 

They may have wanted to make the 14 all along, but when they made the 12 they made a great handling bike with awesome looks and tons of power. The ultimate all around bike.

The dimensions of the 14 are made more for the drag strip, I also don't like the looks of the 14. The Foreman Grills look butt ugly to me. I am sure the bike is fun to ride and would not blame anyone for buying one. It just doesn't get me excited like the 12 did, and I am quite sure that many others feel the same.

The 12 made a "BOOM" when it was launched, the 14 just made a "pop"

I just hope Kawasaki puts the 14 engine into a build similar to the 12R

If you bought a 14 I am sure you will like it. The black version isn't that bad to look at, it just doesn't do it for me.
