i for one am not disappointed they stopped making the 12r. when i heard the 14 was coming i knew the 12 was bye-bye. kawasaki is a small bike co. they keep a streamlined line up.the 14 will take care of the speed wars but it`s not a good looking bike.the 12r on the other hand looks fucking great.

 

One big reason not to do the 14

Well, it's simple.

It isn't a 14... not even close.

Usually a manufacturer makes the motro within 2-4 cc of it's stated size.

Like a 1000 might be 998cc.

But Kawi call it a 14 and it's 1352. That's like a 13 and 1/2 :lol: :lol: :lol:

That to me is simply false advertising... as in a big lie.... and I hate being
lied to...

Well, I remember it. You really didn't like them? I thought they were gorgeous in their day. Great bikes, too. I had a '97 D-model. Traded it for my 12.

 

To me, a bike needs to look and handle like a race bike... so anything that
morphs over to a cruiser (like a GoldWing) just doesn't get me excited.

The ZX11 and the ZX14 are both like that... soft, flowy, curvy, bulky,
bulbous, fat, thick, rounded, sorta like a big toad. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I like a sportbike with sharper lines sorta like the R-1.

did you notice that the nose of the 14 and the GoldWing are almost

hey guys it would be the shit if kawi came out with a 14R or maybe even real 1400cc zx-14r, with what we all love the 12 from looks and agilaty; just like they did with the 600r and the 600rr keep hope alive you never know they have been working on alot of shit "06 zx10r"

 

I find it hard to believe that anyone would see the ZX-14 as more attractive than a Busa, but these things are highly subjective...

In my opinion, of the three bikes, the aesthetics hierarchy is:

#1 Sleek and sexy looking ZX-12r
#2 Long and flowing looking Busa
#3 Confused and dated looking ZX-14

Not being a fanboy, I'd much prefer a Busa over a 14 (you're right Jere, a 13.5...).

Pretty or not, tsewisz is correct. If you don't separate the air enough in front and it comes back together in the back too soon, it creates drag. That could be the reason for the very large front, or it is just what Kawi tried as a styling thing. Either way, I believe it has already set a top speed record? And the areos work. Damn thing is smooth and stable as hell at any speed.

zx12mark is correct, KHI's Consumer Products and Machinery division (motorcycle division) is the smallest of the big 4 Japanese bike companies. At least it was in 2004, the most recent year I collected data on for my research project.

 

The only way I felt let down was by the NONEXISTENT customer service.

Oh yes, I saw those, but it says they are for a 150lb rider. How much extra preload do I need to dial in, for the extra 50 lbs?

Dave - Really, what did you expect??

A bike is a personal machine and, in my opinion anyway, the factories expect you to set it up for your own style and weight. Otherwise, why in the world do most of them use spaghetti noodles for front springs? Unless you moonlight as a professional jockey I don't know anyone who wouldn't be better served by swapping out springs for at least 1kgs or better.

And let's not even talk about the stock rear spring/shock...

But don't sweat - when (if) you go to EDR I'm sure they can get you set up.

Yes, have to agree with you on Kawasaki's shortcomings in customer service. I went round and round with the corporate office on accessories and that was only cause the dealership jerked me around with lies on how they couldn't get me a certain jacket. Meanwhile Zuki shops are loaded with with nice accessories. I finally just gave up but make no mistake Kawasaki is below the standard on corp. care.
