Yes i can understand your feelings about the track, i want to but not without a dedicated track bike.
What i want to do is start taking some longer (say 2 week) rides and maybe throw in some camping along the way.
It's mixed feeling as i would like to camp in some of the cool places i have been but i hate to haul around a bunch of gear and or bags.
In 06 i ended up sending 1/2 of my stuff home UPS once i was in AZ.
made the ride home much nicer.
This year i just packed a lot lighter.
It would also be fun to have someone else along on all or part of the ride.
Not always easy to schedule ride time with friends.
What i try to do is post up to areas i am going and meet up with riders from the local area.
I find most motorcycle people get along pretty well.

This is a video i shot on the ContourHD (low res).
There was a little bit of fine dust on the lens and thus some parts of the picture are not as clear.
Turn down the sound some as the wind noise is pre editing.

Of course i adjusted the speedo tuner so it showed a higher number, i would never actually speed on open hwys.

Also as a public service message i will warn any rider to avoid Klamath Falls this time of year.
It seem there are a billion little green gnats that come out about now.
Took every towel in my hotel room to clean off the bugs on me and my bike.
yuck

Yes it was a solo run.
My 10 is pretty comfy to me, riding position keeps my back straight and that is important.
I regularly have 4-500 mile ride at least once a week so i am used to 12 hour days of riding.
The important thing is to stay hydrated (camel back for me) and take breaks.
i do about once an hour to either get fuel, take a picture, water a tree etc.
With so many spectacular things to see along the way it seemed like i was stopping all the time.
Sedona, grand canyon, crater lake, sequioas, lake tahoe and the list goes on.

I did this ride back in 06 on my zx-14 i have since sold.

If i had to pick between the two for this ride it would be the 14.
When you are regularly up around 5000 to 8400 feet in elevation the 10 feels a little low on Hp and you shift more.

There were some sections the 10 was more fun than the bigger bike though.
Here are a couple pictures.
