Last year I had my stator rewired, new cabling, Jap MOSFET reg/rec with direct cabling to battery (as per Mosfet manufacturer recommendations to reduce weak points or possible leaks from OEM wiring to battery). All work done by professional bike auto electrician, works a treat so far. I have put up on stator threads what had been done at the time.

The bike had completely died causing the need to do the above. My fuel gauge prior to this was actually quite accurate! Since repairs it now shows a more rapid emptying on the gauge, which does not reflect actual fuel usage as the K's done are consistent with the amount of fuel I put in. I know that generally bike fuel gauges are not too accurate and it isn't a huge problem, but when you have something that initially works well then doesn't, you tend to be bugged by it!

Any ideas? Could the new direct cabling from reg/rec to battery cause anything?...Ninjayorkie I'm looking at you!!...

Yep, aware of that one GreenIce, I believe my bike had it done, the gauge used to be very accurate until last year when the stator/regulator finally spat the dummy in a big way. Got that fixed but the gauge started reading a quicker decline to empty, not sure what happened!

Anyway I have literally just finished taking the fuel sensor/float mechanism out of the tank, cleaned the contacts between the contact "button" and the meter board ( if that makes sense) that it sweeps on as the float goes down through it's arc to the bottom of the tank. That button was quite black, came up nice and shiny, also made sure the "tang" that holds that button was bent down enough to ensure there is constant contact with the meter board.

Haven't taken it for a ride yet but the gauge looks to be reading accurately, even after topping up with some extra fuel.

Sorry, no piccies, this ipad won't allow me to get photobucket working!

Went for a ride today, seems to be working better than it was, I want to take it to near empty - at least to flashing last bar which equates to about 2-3 litres. Then I'll know how good it's at.
