why does everyone here keep calling this the "FIX"?? removing the plug and soldering wires does not "FIX" anything. oil will still move up trough the wires. all this does is give a new failure point.
Yes, you are right in the fact that oil will still move up the wire. But, the main reason for removing the plug, is that it overheats, melts and shorts out. When that happens it blows fuses and causes all kinds of problems. Also, with the plug removed, the oil does not have anywhere to come out, or pool up, drip out and cause more problems.
 
your absolutely right the plug is gone so now it can no longer overheat and short out. But guess what? the oil doesnt magically just stop because the plug is no longer there. now the oil continues on past the point of where the plug once was and moves up into the rectifier giving a different short point. the only way to fix this is to take the case off and seal the entrance point.
That's part of the fix. Not just removing the connector, but sealing off the wires also.
