The factory fix is bullshit and is temporary at best. The sealant will harden and crack then the oil will continue to migrate into the connector, then the connector will melt.

I used a Weatherpak connector for my "FIX". I did however solder a section of wire between the bikes wire harness and one end of the connector to act as barrier to prevent the oil passing into the new section of wire and into the connector. I then used 3m EPS heat shrink tubing. The 3m EPS has an adhesive on the inside and helps seal the tubing to the wire. I installed two layers of heat shrink tubing, with the outer tubing longer at both ends than the first. I did not have enough of the 3m EPS to double cover two of the three wires and I have not had any oil seep out from the heat shrink and no oil has made it to the connector. I did this fix back in 2005 and no problems so far. KNOCK ON WOOD!!
