17/47 doesn't give you any additional wheelbase.

The reason 16/44 does is because it's smaller both in the front and the rear, yet numerically it is equivilent to a 2.75 gear ratio almost identical to 17/47. 16/44 will put your rear axle adjuster almost to the back to the stock swingarm with the stock chain.

16/44 is the best drag racing gearing option for a stock wheelbase bike.

To understand what it will do to your speedo, stock gearing is 18/46 (2.55). 16/46 is 2.75, which results in approximately 8% additional error. I say additional because the speedometer on the ZX12R is not accurate to begin with even with stock gearing.

I have been 152 with 16/44 gearing, stock wheelbase.

for reference My best trap ever using 17/46 stock wheelbase was 149.66 backed up with a 148.99 when I had a stock engine with only a pipe making 167rwhp. That was back in Sept of 2000... going thru the trap just touching the limiter in 4th at the line

Depends on the rider.. I would start with 17/47, and work your way up on the rear until you find what works best for you. Dont change gearing until you're certain (consistant) that you need more, and dont expect miracles from gearing. 90% of ET is in the 330' mark, not just 60'.
