I have noticed my 12 'uses' coolant ever so slowly, I have to top up the coolant bottle a wee bit occasionally, is that normal?

Also when I replaced it last I noticed it smelled fuckin awful. The manual says if you notice a pongy smell coming from the coolant you should check for coolant leaks because there could be 'exhaust gas' contaminating it. Has anyone out there had any experience with this? Where abouts would it be leaking?
