I did some grinding and cutting last night and to cut a long story short have removed a large section of the exhaust can baffle, infact it's all gone. Now I am left with a straight through can which has an outlet of 2~3/8" diameter or 63mm for us Metric guys, question is is there an ideal size as the bike does seem to have a bit of a flat spot now @ low rev's which i can only put down to this mod. The original outlet on the can would I guess be about 1~3/4 or 40mm, should I be looking at reducing the current hole to something like this size ?, any advice as always appreciated.

do you have a power commander? My guess is that your hollowed out stock exhaust is no longer flowing the same way it was with the baffle in it, no longer running the correct a/f ratio will def. give you a big flat spot down low (usually why when guys get a exhaust system/even just a can they have to get a power commander with a map set up for that system) just my opinion anyway, may want to look into getting it custom tuned, unless someone has a map for a hollowed out stock can. have fun!

Weld a bunch of washers around the opening. Insert long tubes down the pipe is another mod. Keep closing the end of the pipe until the bottom end comes back.

Yes, I cut'gutted my stock exhaust. Yes, the sound was too loud for the neighbors. Yes, I installed a muffler bearing... Literally!

Thanks guys, the Quill exhaust I chopped about was 1 with a fixed baffle, having seeing how easy they come to bits I should have just drilled the rivets out in the first place but that's life, I have asked Quill for a price for a new end cap as they now make a can with removable baffles which I guess should be made close to reuired sizes.
I don't have a Power Commander as the opinion was as long as you just chaged the can rather than the headers it was a waste of money and gave no benefit.
Will post some piccies of what came out and what's left lol.
Sounds great, specially down local streets where you get an echo of the walls.

I'm sure it does sound good, but that flat spot the 12's already have will only get worse when you change the scavenging characteristics of the exhaust system and don't compensate for the different exhaust can.

Hubz, do you have a flat spot? because i do with a full hindle set up and a pc3 with the hindle tune

No pipe flat spot, b-eater. I do have an ever so tiny flat spot due to the subs removed. Other than the pipe, I found a video of the stocker and then the modded stocker. I am wiping the drive of one of my computers. I think I found that video on the transfer over of the videos to the other computer.

This pipe is off some big twin, I have no clue the model or brand. But I do remember seeing two different year bikes with the stock exhausts. This one looks a lot better, imo.

Same kind of concept if you can run a few tubes inside the muffler. I'm sure some air bounce will bring that bottom end back if you even set a bearing over the end of the muffler like I did. It brought the sound level down and if I ride hard enough, the cap walks off the end of the muffler with that rush of air pressure out of the pipe. I have to take a rubber mallet and bang the tip cover back on, being it is only bolted at the bottom and the top floats off the muffler if I do not reposition the cap.

Give me a few days or so. I'll cut a quick snippet of the sound difference.

Here are some pictures along the way to chopping stuff out.

After I removed the bit by mistake :).

All the bits, perforated tube and another tube + small round end baffle which I first removed, then deceided it still wasn't loud enough and the loose end cap.

Quill want ÂŁ30 for the new end cap + ÂŁ25 for a removable baffle, going to friends tomorrow and will have a play with some new tube + welder, see if I can find something that works, I have another Quill race can knocking about so will use that as the size to use for the new outlet.

They look OK but have managed to sort my existing can out which fits really good between the can and the link-pipe lot of after market cans have a crappy flange showing.
Quill have bothered to make this look like part of the bike, it looks dull but its actually polished aluminium and looks great.
