Had my 98 ZX-11 now for a couple weeks. I love it! This is my first sport bike. Always had cruisers. The first time I rode it I sat in the driveway engine running and my hands started shaking. I thought "how am I gonna turn this thing?" The 50yr old guy I bought it from told me, "its not a cruiser! you dont turn it, you lean it!" I was so nervous about making a fool of myself. But when I went, and have riden it a couple weeks, I cant believe what Ive been missing all these years! WOW! Nimble and FAST! And nobody at work believes me when I tell them how comfortable it is. (they all ride HDs). AND they all asked me if it was "new". It looks that good. I am sooooo happy. Its a bad ass looking bike that still looks current. I guess I sound like a dork, but this is so cool to me now. Plus Im faster than all their new HDs! OK, Im done. :mfclap:

you want the DVD.. it will teach you alot !! also.. if your a bigger guy... (over 185 lbs) you NEED to take the bike to the nearest sport bike shop and have them set the suspension for you, and if your over 200lb you WILL need heavier springs in the forks, as springs as old as your prrrrroooobably aint got as much life in em anyway..

some may tell you not to sweat it.. but better to have it and not need it.. than to need it and...

RKR, I know exactly what you're talking about. My favorite bike was my 93 ZX-11. Rode it any and every where. Got me home every time. Kandy, know what you're talking about too. Kinda wide brush you be using there. I also have a HD and I enjoy the heck out of it, just like my 12. I have worked at HD, Suzuki/Yamaha, and Honda/Kawasaki. There were dick heads at all these dealerships. IMHO, if it has 2 wheels, it's a good thing.

I had a 1997 ZX-11 until last April when I got a 2011 CBR1000rr.
The Z is a wonderful machine and offers a completely different experience from the H-Ds I also own.
No point in bashing, either. Kind of silly. All motorcycles are fun! I miss the ZX-11 and started kicking the tires of a ZX-14R over the weekend. My only complaint about the 11 is that it's a bit top heavy and overweight compared to modern sportbikes.

It's awesome to see someone so excited about their bike, especially a HD rider who can now appreciate the sport bike world. Like GDog said, 'if it has 2 wheels, it's a good thing.' Everyone I ride with all ride cruisers... one victory and like 6 HDs altogether... I've ridden most of their bikes (the Victory is just awesome  good power and comfortable) but the few of them that have ridden my bike are just astonished at the power, even just around the neighborhood. I think having an appreciation for all bikes is important, they all have their strong points... but you wont see me off my 12 for a very, very long time... I enjoy being in the front of the pack too much :king:

I let 1 person pilot my 12 once....only because he let me ride one of his bikes once...and he's been riding for 30 years....

He ONLY got to ride it in a parking lot, because he went down, turned around, and hit it with a little fuel....he pulled up and handed me back the key and said "holy shit"....I asked why he didn't go down the road quick, he said "fuck that shit...that thing is NUTS"...I said "you only went 100 feet!"...

It's awesome to see the zed gettin some love. The 11 was the beez neez for a long time, and is still an awesome bike.

I posted a video on youtube of my brother trying my bike out for the first time

ZX12R vs. 883 Sportster -- Trading Bikes For A Quick Ride - YouTube

... his reaction was priceless. He assumed that because his bike was an 883 and that mine was a 1200, the power difference wouldn't be that extreme.... only about a 300cc difference is what he thought... he he... boy was he WRONG! :crazyloco: The video is just him starting it and taking off, but as we went around the neighborhood he said there was no way he would take that thing out on the street with traffic, it's 'too much'
